Business Ethics and Values & Management - Guest Lecture
October, 2nd2018: Guest Session by Dr. Sanjay Basu, Retd. VP, Sandvik Asia Pvt. Ltd. and former Professor Metallurgy & Material Science, IIT Kharagpur
On Tuesday, October 2nd 2018, IndSearch organized a guest session for MBA students. Guest speaker wasDr. Sanjay Basu, Retd. VP Sandvik Asia Pvt. Ltd. and former Professor Metallurgy & Material Science, IIT Kharagpur. Dr. Ashok Joshi, Honorary Director General, IndSearch, felicitated and welcomed Dr. Basu on behalf of IndSearch family.
Dr. Basu commenced the session with remembering ‘Father of the Nation’, Mahatma Gandhi, on his 150th birth anniversary. He shared with the students some though-provoking quotes by Mahatma Gandhi related to management areas.
Dr. Basu started his discussion with students by askingtheir opinion about ‘What are ethics’. He lucidly explained the timeline of ethics and socially responsible concerns from 1960s to 2000s. He described various ethical issues in business. He alsoexplained several ethics at workplace and at market place. He highlighted the importance of ‘code of conduct’ and why it should be always in written format.
While sharing his experience at Sandvik, Dr. Basu shared with students the core values of Sandvik and their significance. He described how fair play, innovation, passion to win and customer focus& reading minds of the customers act as the key. Then, he shared some statistics about Sandvik’s presence and business all over the world. He also shared some exclusive photos exhibiting illustrious journey of Sandvik Pune plant which is their 2nd largest and widely reputedplant all over the globe.
In the last part of the session, Dr. Basu showed students the trends in India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), economic drivers, growth in per capita income and figures regarding quantum growth of private sector in India. He also explained the modes of demand pattern in India. He shared the names of several Indian multinational companies operating proudly in various nations all over theworld and how India scores higher than western countries in design and machining ability.
The session received very encouraging response from the students. They received numerous insights regarding values & ethics and their vital significance in business environment.
